I have been always thinking about the objectives of systematics and taxonomy as basic responsibility for classifying every living animal up to species level. This is not a scientific query but very essential step for saving life of our planet diversity and ourselves. So, for being a disciplinary and experienced person I used any possible occasion to improve scientific characteristics by participating in several workshops from taxonomy to phylogenetic and from ecology approaches to biodiversity (University of Bonn in 2010) to statistics and time and project management (Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main, 2008-2010).
Generally, I have been interested in evolutionary biology and ecology and try to link them using different aspects of biodiversity (genetic, functional and phylogenetic diversity). So, I linked two distinct but closely related fields, systematics and biodiversity in my research and now run both of them in parallel. I believe that it is time to integrate taxonomy/phylogeny into the conservation in order to meet the global biodiversity challenge that we currently face.
We have focused on taxonomy/biodiversity, phylogeny, and genetics of decapods crustaceans in marine, i.e. Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, and freshwater systems of Iran. We have a holistic perspective, investigating diversity from the species to ecosystem level at local to regional scale. During the past 20 years, we have done extensive field samplings in different marine habitats of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman and have provided a large dataset of marine invertebrates to figure out the distribution pattern of biodiversity and ecosystem, which can be used in regional marine environment management.
